Two-tailed pasha
Charaxes jasius
The strawberry tree is the unique host plant of the two-tailed pasha. Both males and females look alike, the latter usually being larger.
In Portugal, this species can be found from March to October. It has two generations per year, usually during late spring and late summer (more abundant).
The larvae cover the leaf where they hatched with silk threads to secure themselves. They start off by eating small parts of the leaf, but they also move around to feed on the surrounding leaves. However, they always return to the silk coverage they produced before. When ready for the metamorphosis, they fix themselves to the host plant.
