Common seadragon - Life cycle
Phyllopteryx taeniolatus

The development of the common sea dragon takes place over about six months. It starts with an incubation period, in which the embryo develops during four stages before hatching, followed by the larval, juvenile, and sub-adult periods. In this illustration, I chose to depict the main morphological changes that this sea dragon undergoes during its development.

This illustration was done in watercolour. Each drawing was made separately and edited afterwards digitally. Winsor & Newton Professional Watercolours on St. Cuthberts Mill hot pressed watercolour paper.
