Swallowtail
Papilio machaon

The swallowtail, of the family Papilionidae, has a wingspan of 60-80 mm. This butterfly occurs throughout Europe, including in Portugal from February to December, most frequently in unimproved land where flowers are abundant.

The coloured illustrations were made using colour pencils on Strathmore's vellum paper, and the black and white one was done using Indian ink on scratchboard.
