The barn owl  of the Strigiformes order and Tytonidae family, is a sedentary and nocturnal bird of prey with a wide world distribution. It usually lives in open farmland habitat, feeding mostly on small mammals, such as rodents, amphibians, and insects, but also reptiles, and other birds. Its pale, heart-shaped face and dark eyes are distinctive traits of the species. Dark markings cover its back and head. It has a slender body, and white underparts; long, feathered legs that dangle during hunting; sharp and strong talons for capturing prey; and broad wings for a great flight efficiency. The underside of the feet has a rough texture for holding prey and perching.
